Assessment of wind power in the State: The Ministry of New & renewable Energy (MNRE) has initiated the Wind Resource Assessment Programme through its subsidiary National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), Chennai. Total Wind Power Potential as per NIWE report-1,24,042MW
Wind Power Development in Karnataka: Karnataka is bestowed with rich wind energy potential. As on date 2,3528.07 MW of wind capacity has been allocated with total commissioned capacity of 5149.14 MW. KREDL commissioned 8.9MW capacity wind power project  at Mavinahunda site Raybagh Taluk, Belagavi district  and another 6.7 MW capacity at Sogi site, Huvinahadagali Taluk, Ballari district. Totally 15.6 MW capacity commissioned by KREDL.
